KINZUA
DAM and Allegheny Reservoir
East
of Warren of Route 59, this important flood control dam has
created a vast waterway known as the Allegheny Reservoir.
Completed in 1965 by the U.S. army Corps of Engineers, the 25 mile
elongated lake fills nearly 100 miles of forest shoreline.
Recreational opportunities at Kinzua are legendary! Picture a
sparkling lake surrounded by National Forest and you have the
perfect setting for your next vacation.
Pleasure craft of all sizes appear on the waterway in the spring,
summer, and autumn. A marina located just three miles from the
dam, gives easy access to the waterway. There are several boat
launches placed strategically around the lake by the U.S. Forest
Service. |
FISHING
The
beginning of the fishing year, as every Pennsylvania angler knows,
is the first day of trout season, in mid-April. Within the area
flow hundreds of miles of trout water, many stocked, many with
wild populations of native Brook, Brown, or Rainbow trout. For
trophy brown trout, try the Allegheny River or the Allegheny
Reservoir.
In May, the season begins for for walleyes, pike and muskellunge.
Some of the best fishing in the state for all three is in this
three county region. The Allegheny Reservoir is one of the best
trophy muskie waters anywhere. Some of the best smallmouth bass
fishing fishing occurs as bass season opens in June. You can find
good fishing in the Allegheny River, both downriver from Tidioute
and in the lower stretches of Tionesta, Brokenstraw, Conewango and
Oil Creeks, and in the Allegheny Reservoir and Tionesta Reservoir. |
